31 OTA students prepare for their Level II fieldwork in the fall

May 15, 2008

The OTA class of 2008 is eager to complete summer courses and embark on the exciting adventure of level II fieldwork. We would like to thank the dedicated and generous OTs and OTAs who have agreed to accept our students and provide this most important portion of their education. Fieldwork is the time when student’s have the best opportunity to integrate concepts learned in the classroom, gain practical experience and further develop their clinical reasoning skills. Our students will be completing fieldwork all over the state of Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. This year several have opted to stay in southern Indiana close to home. However, we do have one student who will be completing her level IIA in Arizona. USI has several national contracts that allow us to place students throughout the country. We congratulate the OTA class of 2008 and wish them the best as they complete this very important portion of their education.

IOTA Spring Conference offers education for clinical fieldwork educators...

May 11, 2008

USI recently hosted the Indiana Occupational Therapy Association Spring Conference on May10th. In spite of the busy weekend (USI‘s graduation was held on May11th) the conference was a success and offered educational sessions on Specialty Certification, Service learning, First Steps, Professional Portfolio development and information for clinical fieldwork educators.

Two additional conferences are scheduled for the academic year of 2008-2009. In October the 13th Annual Nursing and Health Professions Educator Conference will be held on Oct. 22nd. This conference will bring a keynote speaker of interest to all educators and breakout sessions will include a specific session for clinical fieldwork educators, presented by Janet Kilbane, Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the OT program and Kathleen French, Academic Fieldwork Coordinator for the OTA program. The second conference will be offered by the Indiana Fieldwork Educators Consortium. This offering, slated for early March, will be hosted by USI and open to all clinical fieldwork educators.
