19TH ANNUAL CASE MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE

 

This conference will bring national, regional, and local speakers to share their expertise on national health care trends, answer questions about frequently requested case management topics, as well as provide personal development and networking opportunities. Nancy Skinner, RN, CCM, president of Case Management Society of America will provide the keynote session on Case Management: Building on the Past to Lead the Way to the Future of Healthcare Delivery in America. Laura Bachrach, RN, BSN, MSL, CCM, CLL, executive director of Arizona CMSA, will present a plenary session on Creating an Innovative Transitional Care-tinuum and NO PAYOR SOURCE. Concurrent session topics will include ethics for social workers, nonsurgical management of back pain, palliative care, update on Patient Safety Coalition, and others. Co-provided by Tri-State Case Manager's Network.

15TH ANNUAL ADVANCED PRACTICE NURSING SYMPOSIUM

 

This annual symposium will provide concurrent sessions designed for advanced practice nurses in ambulatory and acute care settings. Featured speaker is health care attorney, Carolyn Buppert, JD, MSN, RN, whose clients include medical practices, institutions, non-profit organizations and individual clinicians throughout the United States. Ms. Buppert will provide a keynote session on drug diversion. The conference will include three additional plenary sessions on cancer screening guidelines, abnormal skin lesions and chronic renal failure in primary care. Two concurrent sessions will provide sessions on safe prescribing practices, imagine choices: what to order when, chest x-ray interpretation, post-concussion syndrome, HIV in primary care, and stabilization of the bipolar client prior to referral. 30th ANNUAL INSTITUTE FOR ALCOHOL AND DRUG STUDIES

 

The annual Institute for Alcohol and Drug Studies (IADS) focuses on current, effective, alcohol and drug treatment and prevention. The two-day, inter-professional conference will provide practical tools and ground-breaking information related to successful intervention, rehabilitation, and treatment. The first day, Dr. Stephen F. Grinstead, LMFT, ACRPS, CADC-II, will address pain management and addictions in a 3 ½ hour morning plenary session followed by concurrent sessions on identification and management of the ways we sabotage and walking the tightrope of pain management. Jon Grant, JD, MD, MPH, will provide the 3 ½ hour morning plenary on biology of addictions with concurrent sessions in the afternoon on both pathological gambling and compulsive sexual addiction. Participants will choose from eight additional afternoon concurrent sessions.

6th ANNUAL MID-AMERICA INSTITUTE ON AGING

 

The Mid-America Institute on Aging is a two day multi-disciplinary gerontology conference for nurses, social workers, older adults, lay persons, and professionals working in the field of gerontology. INTER-PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION: LEARNING TOGETHER, WORKING TOGETHER
18th Annual Nursing and Health Professions Educator Conference

 

This all day conference focuses on innovative teaching strategies for health professionals in academic and health care settings to provide the attendee with a variety of session options focusing on innovative instructional methodology and current issues in education.
Ivy F. Oandasan, MD, CCFP, MHSc, FCFP, will present the keynote address and morning session on building a culture of collaborative practice among faculty, students, universities and communities. Dr. Oandasan is associate director, Academic Family Medicine, College of Family Physicians of Canada. She is an international leader in IPE, and served as the inaugural director of the University of Toronto's Office for IPE. In Toronto, she developed the organizational structures and strategies to implement an IPE curriculum, bridging gaps in collaborative practice across ten of the University's healthcare programs. In October 2007, Dr. Oandasan was named the provincial co-lead for the Ministry of Health's Health Force Ontario Interprofessional Care Project – Advancing a Blueprint for Action for Interprofessional Care. During the afternoon, health professional educators will present educational research and projects in multiple concurrent sessions on interprofessional education; service learning; students and health policy; ethics, cultural competence, and clinical reasoning; diverse generations working together; simulation; and creative teaching strategies.
The deadline for submission of abstracts for oral and poster presentation is May 20.

FOUNDATIONS OF FAITH COMMUNITY NURSING

 

This program for nurses and baccalaureate nursing students will support continued growth in the knowledge, attitudes and skills central to the parish/faith community nurse role. Participants will learn about the various functions of the parish/faith community nurse. The content is the basic parish nurse curriculum of the the International Parish Nurse Resource Center.
The first half of the program (Part 1) is required and is in an online format to be completed prior to the retreat portion of the program. Co-provided with the Tri-State Health Ministry Organization.
