

Information and education are key components in any improvement process. This report is designed to educate the community on the current state of health care in Vanderburgh County and to identify preventative measures that will increase personal and community wellness. This report is brought to the community by the Partnership for Health Care Information.

The content of this report includes information regarding the rate of hospitalization for, severity of, and mortality of five categories of hospital data from 1997-99. Cardiac services, orthopedics, pulmonary services, stroke, and women’s health are included in this report. These particular procedures and diseases were chosen because of the high volume of these diagnoses and procedures as well as their significant cost.

The Partnership for Health Care Information is composed of: the Tri-State Business Group on Health, Deaconess Hospital, St. Mary’s Medical Center, the Tri-State Business Group on Health and the University of Southern Indiana College of Nursing and Health Professions. The Partnership has released several other reports including community-wide procedure rates, hospital-specific mortality rates, and a competitive charge analysis, group of providers, and businesses that work together to provide the community with meaningful information regarding health and health care services in the Evansville community.
