The incidence of chronic wounds in the United States is approximately five million per year, primarily comprised of older adults. The incidence of wound development increases while the healing process decreases with age. Effective wound management requires appropriate diagnoses and treatment by prepared wound care providers. Comprehension of normal skin structure, injury and the wound healing process is important for implementing interventions that promote optimal wound care. The need for knowledgeable wound care providers has never been greater.

Description of Program

This interactive Certificate Program is a six week, 48 hour continuing education program for nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and physical therapists, and other health care professionals. The focus of the program is on assessment and management of a variety of wounds. Assessment includes identification of wound type and is the basis for planning and implementing effective wound management.

The program consists of six modules. Each module contains reading assignments, an instructor outline, audio visual presentations, interactive learning components, study guide questions, and a comprehensive exam. Learners interact with faculty who are expert in the area of wound management. A certificate of completion will be mailed approximately 30 days following completion of the course assignments, a comprehensive exam and a course evaluation. The course has been reviewed by local and national experts.
