Wound Management Certificate Program

Welcome to the Wound Management Certificate Program offered by the University of Southern Indiana. The ever-changing field of health care continually affords new opportunities for clinical practice, expanding to include inpatient and outpatient wound management. The incidence of chronic wounds in the United States is approximately 5 million per year, comprising primarily older adults. The incidence of wound development is increased in the elderly while the healing process is decreased. Wound management has become an area of concern for health care providers as they seek to create solutions to problems associated with this care. Effective wound management requires appropriate diagnosis and treatment by prepared wound care providers. Comprehension of normal skin structure, injury and the wound healing process is important for implementing interventions that promote optimal wound care. The need for knowledgeable wound care providers has never been greater.
