Health Promotion and Worksite Wellness Certificate Program

Health promotion is designed to improve the health and productivity of individuals by changing patterns of lifestyle and behavioral choices. Employers benefit from a lower-cost work force and employees reduce their health care risks and improve their quality of life.

Description of Program

This interactive Internet certificate program is a ten-week, 60-hour continuing education program designed for individuals involved in health promotion and wellness programs. This program prepares the participant to assess, develop, implement, and evaluate a work-site wellness program. Completion of course materials will be applicable to the participant’s worksite.

Course content is delivered through the Internet, on-line conferencing, e-mail,  and textbook readings. Participants can complete this program in the convenience of their home or office.

Who Should Enroll in this Program

The certificate program provides valuable information for human resource professionals, personnel directors, union personnel, employee health nurses, upper-level management, safety department personnel, providers of health care services insurance industry professionals, and others interested in health promotion and worksite wellness.

Enrollment Cost

$600 fee includes Internet instruction, handouts, and other resources.
The textbook is not included in the cost of the program.

Refund Policy

A $25 administrative fee will be charged up to two weeks before the start date.
From two weeks before the class through the day before the start date, a $75 fee will be charged.
On the start date of the class there will be no refund.

Instruction Methods

A combination of delivery methods is used to facilitate learner and faculty communication.

Internet
Internet provides online instructor-prepared materials and course assignments using Blackboard (Bb) technology. Internet resources are used as an integral part of the instruction in the

Electronic Mail
Electronic mail allows learners to freely interact on an individual or group level with other learners and faculty.

Equipment required
Participants will need a computer with Internet access and an e-mail account.

Delivery of Program Content

The program has six modules. Each module includes reading assignments, study questions, and case studies. Learners interact with practitioners and faculty with experience in health risk management programs.

Why Enroll in an Interactive Internet Program?

The convenience of on-line instruction allows the participant to "attend" class at any hour or day of the week during the 10 week period. Participants will learn from experts in the area of health promotion and have the opportunity to network with other course participants from across the country. Internet instruction provides an opportunity for personal interaction with course faculty while providing the comfort of learning in your own home or office.

Continuing Education Credits

A Continuing Education Certificate will be awarded following successful completion of study guide questions, an online comprehensive examination, and submission of a course evaluation.

Nurses will receive 60 contact hours.

The University of Southern Indiana is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Indiana State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider Number 13378.

The University of Southern Indiana is designated a provider of Category 1 continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. This program is a designated event for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) to receive up to 9 Category 1 CECH in health education. (NCHEC Provider Number is SSP2821)

This program is approved for 60 contact hours by the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC approval number: 6174965313).
