The Diabetes Certificate Program is an interactive continuing education program
designed to provide physicians, registered nurses, advanced practice nurses,
pharmacists, physician assistants, and other healthcare professionals with the
knowledge and skills essential to the health of all diabetic patients.
The program consists of six modules and is designed to be completed in six
weeks. Each module includes reading assignments, study questions, case
studies, and test questions. Learners interact with practitioners and
faculty who are expert in the area of Diabetes Management.
This program is designed for English-speaking nurses, office managers, pharmacists, physicians, and other health care professionals interested in the concepts and practices of Diabetes Management.

Offering dates for 2008: January 14 (registration ends 01/07/08), March 31 (registration ends 03/24/08), and August 18 (registration ends 08/07/08).

The enrollment fee for this program is $500 and
includes Internet instruction, handouts, study guide and a comprehensive exam
(the textbook is not included). Partial refunds are available until the
start of the class. An additional $50.00 charge will be added for pharmacists
requesting contact hours. Continuing education credit will be available
to pharmacists beginning with the April 3rd course offerings. NOTE: Pharmacists
requesting CEs must request them during registration.
The textbook for this course is Clinical Diabetes: Translating Research
into Practice. ISBN 1-4160-0273-1 1st Ed. Elsevie. The textbook is not included in the cost of the program.
A $25 administrative fee will be charged up to two weeks before the start date.
From two weeks before the class through the day before the start date,
a $75
fee will be charged.
On the start date of the class there will be no refund.

A combination of delivery methods are used to facilitate learner and faculty communication including:
Provides on-line instructor-prepared materials and course assignments. Internet resources are used as an integral part of the instruction.
Allows learners to interact with faculty and other course participants.
Allows learners to freely interact on an individual or group level with other learners and faculty.
Faculty will be available by telephone to assist learners.
Participants will need a computer with Internet access. They will also need an e-mail account. For optimum performance it is recommended that at a minimum the computer be a 486 50 Mhz or higher with 16 MB of RAM, 200 MB hard disk space, Super VGA monitor and card with a minimum of 2 MB of RAM; and a modem speed of 28,800 or higher.
The program has six modules. Each module includes reading assignments, study questions, case studies, and test questions. Learners interact with practitioners and faculty who are expert in the area of case management. A comprehensive examination will be administered at the end of the six-week program.
The convenience of on-line instruction allows the participant to "attend" class at any hour or day of the week during the 6 week period. Participants will learn from experts in the area of diabetes management and have the opportunity to network with other course participants from across the country. Internet instruction provides an opportunity for personal interaction with course faculty while providing the comfort of learning in your own home or office.
Nurses will receive 48 contact hours.
The University of Southern Indiana College of Nursing and Health Professions, Evansville, is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Indiana State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
The Diabetes Management
Certificate Program is an ANCC-accredited Nursing Skills Competency Program.
The University of Southern Indiana is approved by the California Board
of Registered Nursing. Provider #13378.
Certified Case Managers will receive 48 CCM clock hours from the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCM).
The
Indiana Pharmacists Alliance is accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. Participants
will receive 48 contact hours or 4.8 CEU's for successful completion of this
program. CE statements of credit will be distributed upon completion of the
program. ACPE # 120-999-06-004-H04. There is an additional $50.00 charge for
pharmacists requesting contact hours. NOTE: Pharmacists requesting CEs must
request them during registration.
The Diabetes Management Certificate Program, provided by the University of Southern Indiana, College of Nursing and Health Professions is an accredited Competency Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
