This interactive Internet Certificate Program is a six week, 40 hour continuing education program for nurses, pharmacists and physicians. Effective anticoagulation therapy requires systematic, coordinated patient care management by prepared anticoagulation therapy providers. This program focuses on the physiology and pathophysiology of thromboembolic disorders, patient assessment and management, pharmacology of antithrombotic agents, patient education and program administrative procedures. The content was designed utilizing the competencies for anticoagulation therapy providers developed by the Certified Anticoagulation Provider Working Group and has been reviewed by local and national experts.
This program is designed for English-speaking nurses, pharmacists, physicians, and other health care practitioners who have, or want to prepare for, responsibility for monitoring and managing outpatient anticoagulation therapy.

The purpose of this continuing education program is to provide an opportunity for physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care professionals to increase their knowledge and expertise in managing patients receiving anticoagulation therapy. At the conclusion of the program the participant will be able to:
Information regarding the National Certification Board of Anticoagulation Providers national certification exam can be obtained through the Anticoagulation Forum.
A member of the National Advisory Board will be available to answer your most challenging patient management issues during the course.
This 6 week course is offered five times a year. Registration deadline is two weeks prior to the start date.

Participants will need a computer with Internet access. They will also need an e-mail account. For optimum performance it is recommended that at a minimum the computer be a 486 50 Mhz or higher with 16 MB of RAM, 200 MB hard disk space, Super VGA monitor and card with a minimum of 2 MB of RAM; and a modem speed of 28,800 or higher.
The textbook for the course is Managing Oral Anticoagulation Therapy: Clinical and Operational Guidelines 2nd ed. by Jack E. Ansell, Lynn B. Oertel, and Ann K. Wittkowsky. I suggest you order your textbook as soon as possible, in order to receive it by the start of the course. The textbook currently takes 1-2 weeks for delivery. Your registration confirmation email will give details on how to order the book. The cost of the textbook is not included in the registration fee.

The program has five modules. Each module includes reading assignments, study questions, case studies, and test questions. Learners interact with practitioners and faculty who are expert in the area of anticoagulation therapy. A comprehensive examination will be administered at the end of the six-week program.
The convenience of on-line instruction allows the participant to "attend" class at any hour or day of the week during the 6 week period. Participants will learn from experts in the area of anticoagulation management and have the opportunity to network with other course participants from across the country. Internet instruction provides an opportunity for personal interaction with course faculty while providing the comfort of learning in your own home or office.
A Continuing Education Certificate will be awarded following successful completion of study guide questions, an online comprehensive examination, and submission of a course evaluation. Certificates will be mailed within approximately 30 days after the completion of the course.
Nurses will receive 40 hours. The program content meets the pharmacology continuing education requirements for the renewal of the advanced practice nurse prescriptive authority license in Indiana.
The University of Southern Indiana College of Nursing and Health Professions, Evansville is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Indiana State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
California nurses will receive 40 hours.
The University of Southern Indiana is approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. Provider #13378.
Certified Case Managers will receive 40 CCM clock hours from the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCM).
The
Indiana Pharmacists Alliance is accredited by the Accreditation Council for
Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmaceutical education. Participants
will receive 40 contact hours or 4.0 CEU's for successful completion of this
program. CE statements of credit will be distributed upon completion of the
program and the program evaluation tool. ACPE # 120-999-07-201-H01-P. There is
an additional $50.00 charge for pharmacists requesting contact hours. NOTE:
