This interactive Internet Certificate Program is a six-week, 40-hour continuing education program for nurses, social workers and other health care professionals. The focus of the program is assessment and management of Alzheimer's Disease from diagnosis until death. Assessment strategies identify stage of progression and are the basis for planning effective management. Management is by stage, using the Theory of Retrogenesis. Management includes strategies related to environment, behavior, interaction, and medication. Information about regulations and staff education is included.
The program consists of six modules and is designed to be completed in six weeks. Each module includes reading assignments, study questions, case studies, PowerPoint presentations, video stream, and test questions. Learners interact with faculty who are expert in the area of Alzheimer's Disease Management. A Certificate of Completion will be mailed approximately 30 days following the completion of course assignments, a comprehensive online exam, and a course evaluation.
This program is designed for English-speaking nurses, pharmacists, physicians, social workers, and other health care professionals or information caregivers interested in the concepts and practices of Alzheimer's Disease.
National experts will be available to answer your most challenging Alzheimer's Disease Management questions.

Enrollment Cost: $500
Fee includes internet instruction, and a comprehensive exam. The textbook is not included in the enrollment fee and must be purchased separately. Refunds are available prior to the start of the class, less an administrative fee and the cost of the received course materials.
Refund Policy:
A $25 administrative fee will be charged up to two weeks before the start date.
From two weeks before the class through the day before the start date, a $75
fee will be charged.
On the start date of the class there will be no refund.

Provides on-line instructor-prepared materials and course assignments. Internet resources are used as an integral part of the instruction.
Allows learners to interact with faculty and other course participants.
Allows learners to freely interact on an individual or group level with other learners and faculty.
We recommend you do not use your work email address for taking this course. Many businesses, especially government agencies, utilize security firewalls. Communication from the instructor, the University or other students may not get through and you will not see the message. We also do not recommend using AOL, for similar reasons. Faculty will be available by telephone to assist learners.
Participants will need a computer with Internet access. They will also need an e-mail account. For optimum performance it is recommended that at a minimum the computer be a 486 50 Mhz or higher with 16 MB of RAM, 200 MB hard disk space, Super VGA monitor and card with a minimum of 2 MB of RAM; and a modem speed of 28,800 or higher.
The program has six modules. Each module includes reading assignments, objectives, study questions, narrated power points, video streams, and learning activities. Learners interact with practitioners and faculty who are expert in the area of Alzheimer's Disease. A comprehensive examination will be administered at the end of the six-week program.
The convenience of on-line instruction allows the participant to "attend" class at any hour or day of the week during the 6 week period. Participants will learn from experts in the area of Alzheimer's and have the opportunity to network with other course participants from across the country. Internet instruction provides an opportunity for personal interaction with course faculty while providing the comfort of learning in your own home or office.
Continuing Education Contact Hours will be rewarded following successful completion of study guide questions, an online comprehensive examination, and submission of a course evaluation.
Nurses will receive 40 hours.
The University of Southern Indiana College of Nursing and Health Professions, Evansville is an approved provider of continuing nurisng education by the Indiana State Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
California nurses will receive 40 hours.

Social Workers will receive 40 contact hours.

Health Facility Administrators will receive 40 contact hours.

Certified Case Managers will receive 40 CCM clock hours from the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCM).
