Instructions for Completing the
Application for Graduate Admission

Admission Requirements

Each student submits an application to both the Office of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Nursing Program. Applications are not reviewed until all materials have been received by the Graduate Nursing Admissions and Progression Committee.  Applicants must be admitted to Graduate Studies before their materials can be reviewed by the Graduate Nursing Admissions and Progression Committee. (See Office of Graduate Studies, Admission to Graduate Studies). 

Part-time status options are developed individually for each student. Students must contact the Graduate Nursing Office, by email or phone, for an individual advising session four weeks after submitting admissions materials. The admission requirement for the Graduate Nursing Program are as follows: 

  1. A baccalaureate degree in nursing from a nationally accredited school. 
  2. Minimum baccalaureate grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale. 
  3. Satisfactory completion of a course in undergraduate statistics (grade C or better). 
  4. Current, unencumbered RN license in the state of practice.
  5. One year full-time or two thousand hours of clinical practice as an RN within the last five years.
  6. Applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to demonstrate a TOEFL score of 550 on the written version or a score of 213 on the computerized version.
  7. Successful completion of the application process to both the Office of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Nursing Program. 
Admission Deadline: 
All application materials for spring acceptance must be received by October 1. 
All application materials for fall acceptance must be received by February 1 of that year.

  1. Official transcripts from all colleges and/or universities. To be official, transcripts must be sent directly from the registrar of the institution to the Office of Graduate Studies. 
  2. A $25.00 application fee made out to the University of Southern Indiana. 
  3. A completed USI Application for admission to The Office of Graduate Studies

1. Completed USI Graduate Nursing Application
2. Copy (front and back, please) of your current nursing 
    license(s). 
3. 2 professional references.
4. 1-2 page goals essay.
5. Current resume.
6. 1-2 page scholarly paper on selected specialty.
7. Three to four weeks after submission, please contact 
    the Graduate Nursing Office at (812) 465-1154 to 
    make an appointment for a personal on-campus or 
    telephone advising session. For more information,
