In today's fast paced world, the use of cutting edge technology is required to meet societies demands. The University of Southern Indiana uses these technologies to provide the students, faculty, and staff more options to assist the student continue her/his education while maintaining a professional life. These technologies include:
Internet: The use of the internet provides online-instructor-prepared materials and class assignments. Various Internet resources such as online journals and databases are also used as an integral part of instruction.
Computer Conferencing: The use of video and instant message conferencing allows students to freely interact with faculty and other class members.
CD’s: The use of CD's provides instructors with the opportunity to visually and/or audibility conduct presentations and demonstrations while providing the student the ability to access this information on his/her personal computer.
E-mail: USI provides each student with a university hosted email address. This allows students to interact on a one-to-one or group basis with other students and faculty members while maintaining privacy and separation from the students professional and personal life.
Streaming Media: Streaming media over the internet enhances the learning process by allowing the student access to "live" and "on-demand" lectures and/or presentations directly from the university to your home computer.
The David L. Rice Library: The David L. Rice Library provides students with access to various online catalogues, journals, and references. To learn more about the library visit the library's site.
As new ways to learn and provide materials are discovered every day and as the College of Nursing and Health Professions continues to grow, we constantly maintain our committment to providing students access to our programs to further their education, enhance their learning, and promote life long education.
For students using a personal home computer, it is recommended that the computer have the Windows XP or Mac OS X 10.2 or higher operating system. For compatibility, you will want to have access to Microsoft Office 2007, Office 2003 with the Converter Pack or Office 2004 for Mac. Contact the USI Bookstore for purchase information on student editions of Microsoft Office. Additionally, a broadband Internet connection would be very beneficial; AOL is not recommended.
